Video of A Few Dolphins Who Joined Our Paddle on Maui

Aloha friends who love all there is to love about stand up paddling on Maui, here’s a short little video for you. This time of year not only is it peak whale watching season but once in awhile a few special friends join us as we paddle. I’m talking about playful spinner dolphins. While I was out for a long distance training session with my good friend Barb Utech, we were approaching mile 11 in the calm waters near Makena Landing, just south of the Four Seasons Maui Resort. Another fellow paddler was heading towards us and to our delight, we saw a flurry of activity around him and then fins. We knew they were the friendly ones so we slowed our pace to take advantage of their presence. Barb was overwhelmed as we were so focused on our training it was a more than welcome rest! Enjoy! Nevada SUP Paddler Scott Boyles checking in with a Big Win and Big Stoke

Nevada SUP Paddler Scott Boyles checking in with a Big Win and Big Stoke One of the many rewards of helping people with their stand up paddling stroke/fitness/technique is getting emails, photos and updates of their stoke and even better, wins in their local events. Makes a coach proud! I had the chance to catch up with Scott Boyles at this year’s Battle of the Paddle at Dana Point where I could see from the fire in his eyes, discipline and strength in his body that this was only the beginning for him. Scott came to Maui with his wife Cheryl last year and took a lesson with me to improve his stroke. He was incredibly technical which I enjoyed all the more. He got it and he got it fast. As a student, he was a quick study and understood the finer nuances that take most people a little more time to grasp. With his anatomical knowledge and practice, I knew he’d have big breakthroughs too. As he was already in excellent shape, it didn’t take him long to find his true core power ( about 5 minutes! ).  He was able to understand how to use and transfer that power directly to the board and water. Impressive. Scott writes: “[I had] paddled [only] twice in my life. My wife Cheryl and I went to Maui, called Suzie Cooney. She invited us on a community downwinder from Paia Bay to Kanaha. Could barely stay on the board! Then I took a personal paddle lesson from her, and she demonstrated the great ability to coach technique, but more importantly communicate in...

Nicole Sanchez of Behind The Lens Maui on Location With Suzie Cooney at the Four Seasons Resort Maui Shooting Behind the Scenes of a Video Production

In the grand hallways of the Four Seasons Resort, Maui  Nicole Sanchez was invited to shoot behind the scenes of a promotional video being shot for Suzie Cooney, one of eight for the completion of the reel for Laster-Heathman Media.  Lights, action,  and glamour was the theme of this shoot! Nicole’s noted experience captured every angle from the twirl of the gorgeous satin black skirt by St. John, vintage Chanel necklace and Basculente watch by Cartier. Next scene, an outrageous necklace designed by the famous Greek jewelry designer, Konstantino stood out against the colorful tapestry backdrop!  Nicole’s professional direction worked well the production team and was one step ahead of every pose. Maui News Thank You Letter Jill Engledow of Wailuku Comments on STAND UP For Women’s Health and Fitness Maui

Maui News, January 24th: ” Kudos to Suzie Cooney of Suzie Trains Maui and Tommy Callan of Beach Boy Events for putting on a wonderful, free stand-up paddling event for women Jan. 9. They pulled together an amazing array of sponsors and helping hands to put women out on the water, some of us for the first time on a stand-up paddle board. As one of those beginners, I felt very well cared for, even though on the day of this event – with some 300 women and their boards showing up on the beach in front of the Four Seasons Resort – there was a serious shore break. In addition to putting on a great fitness-oriented program with a slew of prizes for participants, Suzie and Tommy seemed to have pulled in a significant portion of the stand-up community on Maui to help. I especially appreciated the “board caddies,” a bunch of very fit and helpful gentlemen, who helped us with our boards and got us safely in and out of that hairy shore break. Although I spent a lot more time in the water and climbing back onto my board than I did standing up, I had a great time, and I hope the event raised lots of funds for the American Breast Cancer Foundation.” Jill Engledow Wailuku http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/527962.html  Thank you Jill for your kind words and comments about the board caddies and all the volunteers, and especially the Four Seasons Resort Maui who contributed hugely to the day’s success and fun. We’re all so glad you attended and particiated in all the fun! For more information on...
